Prayer—What You Need To Know

INTRODUCTION

It is highly recommended that you begin this section on prayer by reading the subjects PRAY AND GET ANSWERS—HOW? and then the section PRAYER—WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW.

God’s Word to you is the Bible. Read and study it daily and faithfully. We suggest not less than 5 chapters a day. Guidelines on this subject should be found under BIBLE DESK—HOW TO STUDY. Always pray for wisdom and understanding before study. Never come to God’s Word with a "know-it-all" type of attitude. Come to God’s Word in humbleness and meekness. Did you know God’s Word teaches us to even tremble at His Word?

Whatever thoughts you have that you might think are from God need to be compared with God’s Word.

Many throughout the world pray to a God that they know nothing about. They go to a church, sing some songs, hear a few verses of Scripture and then return home. Their life does not reflect Jesus. They are what one might call a good, moral type of person, but they are not born-again. They need to repent and humble themselves.

A person needs to know and understand God.

SOME GUIDELINES FOR PRAYER MIGHT INCLUDE:

     1-Beginning with the Lord’s prayer.

2-If there is any person you hold anything against—forgive them.

3-Confess and repent of known sin. Humble yourself.

     4-Praise and worship God.

5-Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

6-Pray God will send workers into His harvest field.

7-Pray for the head of your country and for officials in high positions.

    8-Pray for your enemies.

9-Pray for any that are against you and persecute you.

10-Pray for your neighbors, friends, family, relatives and others.

11-Pray for lost souls to be led to Christ.

12-Pray for fellow born-again Christians that they will bear good fruit and be perfect and complete in all the will of God.

13-Pray that your own attitude will reflect Jesus more and more, and you will bear the fruits of the Spirit.

14-Pray that you will draw closer to God. (You draw closer to God through faith which comes from hearing, reading and studying God’s Word and repenting.)

15-Ask for God’s guidance and direction in all matters, including how He would have you serve Him. Do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

16-Are you sick? Pray for others that are sick.

17-Pray you may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men.

18-Make your needs known to God.

19-Pray for wisdom and understanding of God’s Word, and then obey God’s Word.

20-Pray that God will send you people to witness to. (When you witness, your own personal testimony of how you came to Jesus may be good and also use God’s Word, not other worldly stories.)

21-Pray, regarding those to whom God sends you, that He will prepare their hearts to receive His Word.
